The mission of the Black Education Museum is to promote understanding and appreciation of the African American experience through education. The museum achieves this by collecting and preserving artifacts, documents, and other materials related to the history of African Americans in teaching, by providing educational programs and public events, and serving as a resource for scholars, students, and the general public. History:

The Black Education Museum was founded in 2001 by Dr. Robert H. Jackson, Jr. and Mrs. Deborah Jackson. The museum is housed in a historic African American schoolhouse built in 1927 and served as a segregated school for Black children until it closed in 1966.

Collections:

The Black Education Museum holds many artifacts, documents, photographs, and other materials that speak to African Americans' role in education. Members of the public are welcome to come and do research by appointment.
